Manchester United held off a late surge from West Ham at the weekend to win 1-0, keeping yet another clean sheet.
David de Gea was voted Manchester United’s man of the match, pulling off a series of late saves. It was the third successive match against the Hammers at Old Trafford which Manchester United had won 1-0.
West Ham forward Michail Antonio was part of the visiting side who were frustrated by United’s defence, and he has been talking about what it is like to go up against the Red Devils right now.
Antonio said he was ‘annoyed’ with David de Gea consistently stopping him from scoring goals, and praised United’s defence.

Lisandro Martinez praised by Michail Antonio
Speaking to the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Antonio said he feels De Gea always saves his best performances against West Ham.
He made a point of praised fan favourite United defender Lisandro Martinez, who had another strong performance in the victory.
Antonio said: “He’s done that to us for the last three years we’ve gone up there. We have had so many chances and he’s just decided to turn up for our games. He was unbelievable.
“They played well defensively. [Lisandro] Martinez was quality, he was a rock, Harry Maguire came in and did well – with all the comments – but he was solid. [Diogo] Dalot took three balls off my head at the back stick!“
De Gea, over the last few years, playing against him, he has pulled out some worldies against me. There’s a few games where he has done this to me and he’s really annoying me, not going to lie!”
De Gea was singled out for praise by Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel after his performance, while manager Erik ten Hag described his shot stopping abilities as ‘magnificent’.
United have now kept five clean sheets in the past six games, and will be looking for another against Real Sociedad this evening in the Europa League.
Antonio’s comments highlight the respect Manchester United’s performances have generated among fellow footballers, with his praise of new signing Martinez particularly striking.
