Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury against Sevilla and he will be badly missed at Manchester United.

The severity of Lisandro Martinez’s injury is yet to become fully clear. Erik ten Hag said he felt it did not look good.

The manager said: “I cannot tell what it is, but is not an Achilles. I have spoken with him and he is okay and he is calm.

“I think [it is] an injury [that means] he will not play on Sunday. I cannot say what the diagnosis [is]. I prefer to wait and to know what it is.”

Martinez a colossus

Lisandro Martinez has been outstanding for Manchester United since joining, a true warrior in the heart of the defence.

He leads by example and could prove to be a huge miss for the Red Devils for the upcoming fixtures.

The numbers from the draw with Sevilla tell their own story, of what Martinez provides on both side of the ball.

In possession he was almost perfect. He completed 40 of 41 passes, 98 per cent in total.

From a defensive aspect Martinez won three of three tackles, 100 per cent, also making five clearances and blocking one shot. He won four of four ground duels, making two interceptions.

The Argentine was praised by MUTV pundit Dion Dublin after the game, who described what a miss he would be for the Red Devils.

Dublin said that to lose Martinez for the rest of the season would be, “huge, massive.”

He added: “The intensity, the way he plays the game. He plays the game at 100mph. he doesn’t know how to play at 95 per cent. The rest of he team follow that lead, intensity. [They are] going to miss him massively.”
