Lisandro Martinez celebrated Manchester United’s FA Cup fourth round win over Leicester City from the comfort of his home.

Manchester United beat Leicester City 2-1 in the FA Cup on Friday night to secure a place in the fifth round of the competition.

As FA Cup holders, after a 2-1 win over Manchester City in last season’s final, United made hard work of their tie with Premier League strugglers Leicester City.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side opened the scoring after some sloppy defending from United, with a number of players at fault for poor positioning as Bobby Decordova-Reid scored from the header. There was little Andre Onana could do about the opening goal.

However, a much better second half display from the Reds saw the game turn on its head.

Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee had a significant impact after coming off the bench. The latter scored the equaliser before Harry Maguire’s stoppage time header sealed the 2-1 win.

Although the overall performance leaves a lot to be desired, the Old Trafford faithful had something to celebrate and they weren’t alone in doing so.

Lisandro Martinez celebrates win with Manuel Ugarte

It has been a difficult week for United’s star defender.

Lisandro Martinez tore his cruciate ligament in United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. It was announced on Thursday that he would miss the remainder of the season.

However, from the comfort of his home in Manchester, Martinez watched the game live and called Manuel Ugarte on FaceTime after the full-time whistle.

While it’s a huge blow to be without Martinez for the rest of the campaign, this shows that team chemistry is being built in the dressing room, even though results have been far from ideal.

United are back in action on Sunday, 16 February, when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Martinez will be supporting form afar again.

Martinez appreciates heartwarming gesture

Manchester United’s first-team showed their support for Martinez by wearing special warm-up t-shirts that featured a message for Martinez.

“¡Mucha Fuerza Licha!” was the message on the back of each player’s shirt, which in English translates “Stay strong, Licha!”

Martinez responded with a post on Instagram, saying: “Thanks for the show of support, guys! I’ll come back stronger.”

It was United’s first game since Martinez suffered his season-ending injury in his knee.

Martinez was forced off the pitch via a stretcher after stretching to win the ball back from Palace forward Ismalia Sarr.

Ruben Amorim rested fellow United defender Matthijs de Ligt for the FA Cup win over Leicester, but the Netherlands international is likely to return to the defence for next week’s showdown with Tottenham.
