Leny Yoro was one of Manchester United’s standout performers on Thursday night when Ruben Amorim’s side secured a place in the Europa League final.

Ruben Amorim had something to smile about after a difficult first six months as Manchester United head coach, despite the team being destined to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

United beat Athletic Club 4-1 at Old Trafford to win the tie 7-1 on aggregate.

The Red Devils went into the second leg with a three-goal advantage. Still, they conceded in the 31st minute to make for a nervy first half at Old Trafford, with United fans desperate not to see their team collapse in Europe with Champions League qualification on the line.

Now, the focus is on the trip to Bilbao in two weeks, though Amorim’s side must play two league matches before then and try to avoid any further injury setbacks.

Leny Yoro one step closer to making Man Utd history

The headlines on Thursday night were deservedly grabbed by Mason Mount, who scored two goals after coming off the bench in the second half.

Casemiro was another standout performer and he earned his plaudits after getting on the scoresheet against Athletic Club.

While these players were undoubtedly impressive on the night, the performance of Leny Yoro was top drawer, and United fans are growing in excitement over the 19-year-old’s potential after joining the club from Lille last summer.

MUTV pundit David May hailed Yoro for being “outstanding” in his post-match assessment, with the centre-back registering an assist for Mount in the win, showcasing his incredible ability to carry the ball into forward positions.

Yoro took to social media after United booked their place in the Europa League to express his delight, referencing how the team is ‘one step closer’ to making history.

The United starlet took to Instagram to share a series of photos from Thursday night, with a message for United fans, saying: “One step closer to history. Fully locked on our goal.”

Bruno Fernandes shares Leny Yoro verdict

United captain Bruno Fernandes is the team’s most valuable player and his leadership often gets overlooked.

Fernandes’ experience on the pitch is crucial for young players like Yoro, especially in terms of trying to match the Portugal international’s high standards on the pitch.

Replying to Yoro’s latest social media post, Fernandes made his feelings clear about his French teammate, calling him “world class”.

Fernandes has played with many great players down the years, including former France defender Raphael Varane, during his spell at Old Trafford.

Yoro will hope he can follow in Varane’s footsteps by becoming a successful defender on the world stage. Now, he has a chance to win his first European Cup at United.
