Kobbie Mainoo’s new Man Utd deal is an Ineos masterstroke after Phil Foden’s £250k per week contract

Manchester United handed Kobbie Mainoo a significant pay rise with his new long-term deal, but it still pales in comparison to Phil Foden.

Last week was one of the best in Kobbie Mainoo’s Manchester United career so far.

First, Mainoo signed a new deal until 2031, and he followed it up by scoring a dramatic winning goal in the 3-2 win over Liverpool.

Mainoo is now earning £150,000 per week on his new deal, representing his importance in the first-team squad. It is a significant rise from his previous pay package of around £20,000.

Phil Foden’s new contract shows genius behind Kobbie Mainoo deal

Just days after Mainoo’s new deal was announced, Manchester City have confirmed that Phil Foden has also signed a long-term extension until 2030 with a one-year option.

The exact details of Foden’s new deal are yet to be determined, but The Mirror reported that Foden was already earning £250,000 per week at The Etihad.

Foden has only started 21 Premier League games for Manchester City this season, and it seems he has dropped down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order.

Yet even as a fringe player, he is earning £100,000 per week more than Mainoo, who has been on a brilliant resurgence under Michael Carrick.

Mainoo is a future United captain, and he is close to making a return to the England setup. To tie down Mainoo on a £150,000 per week deal for the next five years now looks like brilliant business by Ineos.

Man Utd have regained control of their wage bill

Under the Glazers, United were guilty of giving huge contracts to underperforming players.

It meant that United had a hugely inflated wage bill and were often stuck with players who were happy to stick around on big wages.

But Ineos have improved United’s wage structure considerably, and that will continue this summer.

Casemiro is United’s top earner on £350,000 per week, but he is leaving this summer. It means captain Bruno Fernandes is the only player in the squad to reach the £300,000 per week mark, and no one will complain he doesn’t deserve it.

The Mainoo deal is great value for United, and another example of Ineos’ improved contract business.
