Ben Foster dropped his powerful verdict on Kobbie Mainoo after the Manchester United midfielder’s performance against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Kobbie Mainoo completed the full 90 minutes at the weekend and the Manchester United youth academy product picked up an assist for Bryan Mbeumo’s opener.

The 20-year-old Red Devils ace has experienced a resurgence in form at Old Trafford after interim head coach Michael Carrick made his sensational return to United.

Michael Carrick, who is interim boss until the end of the season, has started Mainoo in all four of his first four Premier League matches since his January appointment.

Mainoo has been starting and playing alongside Brazil star Casemiro in the two-man midfield pivot in Carrick’s tactical set-up for Man Utd in recent weeks.

Ben Foster’s reaction to Kobbie Mainoo’s Man Utd display against Tottenham speaks volumes

Kobbie Mainoo has picked up two assists in four matches under Michael Carrick and the Stockport-born talent impressed with his performance at the weekend.

The Manchester United midfielder has been looking more like his former self with each passing match, with Mainoo being an assured presence against Tottenham.

Speaking after United’s 2-0 win over Tottenham, Ben Foster could not hold back his true feelings on seeing Mainoo finding his best form again at the Red Devils.

“Brilliant, mate [Mainoo’s performance],” he said on the Fozcast podcast.

“What a player. Honestly.”

Mainoo’s influence at Euro 2024 and England’s defeat to Germany in the final were brought up as well, with Foster once again dropping praise on the United talent.

“Exactly. Yeah, he was incredible [in the Euro 2024 final] as well, yeah,” Foster added.

Ben Foster on what must have happened for Kobbie Mainoo under former Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim

Foster was left scratching his head at how Mainoo was left out of the United starting XI under Ruben Amorim, who was sacked as Red Devils head coach last month.

The former Man Utd player is convinced that some sort of rift must have caused Mainoo to be dropped from his regular starting role under Ruben Amorim.

“There’s something [going] on there,” he said.

“There’s got to have been a massive fallout because there’s no way you can watch that player on Saturday do what he did and him not have been in the team because he is, you can tell he’s a player.

“He’s brilliant, he’s an absolute player.”

Mainoo did not make a single Premier League start in the 2025-26 season under former United manager Amorim before the Portuguese coach was sacked.
