Kobbie Mainoo featured once again for England U19s as they took on Japan.

The young Three Lions have been in Marbella over the international break, with Kobbie Mainoo featuring off the substitute bench in their 6-0 rout against Romania.

They then took on Japan in the second fixture, where this time Mainoo started from the off.

It was a dramatic game. Here’s how England, and more importantly Mainoo, got on.

Kobbie Mainoo stars for England U19s

According to the match report – Mainoo started in the heart of midfield for England, alongside Jacob Wright of Manchester City and Romain Esse of Millwall.

The 18-year-old this time managed 76 minutes on the pitch, eventually substituted for Jamie Donley of Tottenham Hotspur – who had a huge role to play in the fixture.

England went two goals up in the first half through Jacob Wright and Will Lankshear, only to be pegged back to 2-2 soon after the re-start.

This then set up a dramatic last-minute Donley strike, which ensured England maintained a 100% record in Spain.

England will now round off their trip with a game against Mexico on Tuesday evening. Expect to see Mainoo in and around the squad once again.

Elyh Harrison had to watch on

17-year-old Elyh Harrison was also involved in the England U19 squad, but sadly just like the game against Romania – he had to watch on from the sidelines.

Naturally being a goalkeeper it’s tough to get minutes for Harrison, but it’s mightily commendable that he’s in the under 19s frame anyway at his age.

Like Mainoo, Harrison is a tremendous talent. He’s immense for United’s academy sides and is certainly a name to remember for the future.
