Kobbie Mainoo praises Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes

Kobbie Mainoo made his Manchester United debut in January 2023, before establishing himself as a regular in the 2023/24 season.

Mainoo has admitted that before he stepped up, he was left in awe of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

Casemiro joined United in 2022, with Fernandes signing in 2020, before Mainoo had even made his under-18s bow.

Mainoo explained via United media: “It’s been huge for me because I’ve learned so much off [Casemiro]. Him and Bruno, to be fair.

“Mostly in training, like when I was 16 or 17, I’d come up to train, and I was only training with the first team at that time, I wasn’t playing games – like training was my games.

“I’d watch them and the pace of training was so high, and I’d just think, how are they so calm in that? And like what are they doing?

“I’d go home and I’d think about it a lot, and I’d try and implement things. But I’m still learning now, to this day.”

Mainoo will be the reference point

Kobbie Mainoo has signed a Manchester United contract until 2031, and the hope is that he will have another long-term contract in him after that.

Any young player joining in the training sessions in 2026 will likely be leaving Carrington very impressed by what they have seen from Kobbie Mainoo.

With Casemiro set to leave, Mainoo will take an even more senior role in the squad in the years ahead.

It is Mainoo who will be the reference point for others, and keeping that continuity was essential for United.
