Kingsley Coman shocked at how Manchester United treated Paul Pogba, blames club for asking too much

Bayern Munich sensation Kingsley Coman was left shocked by what Manchester United did back in 2018.

The France international is a close ally of Paul Pogba, who left Manchester United in 2022 when his six-year contract expired.

United had re-signed Pogba from Juventus in 2016 for a then-world record transfer fee worth £89 million.

However, Pogba did not live up to expectations during his second spell at Old Trafford.

The French star hit the ground running after winning the Carabao Cup and Europa League in his first campaign under Jose Mourinho. Pogba’s relationship with the manager soured over time and it didn’t help that his performances were inconsistent.

Mourinho’s departure led to Pogba rediscovering his form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but it didn’t last long because recurring injuries limited his contributions.

Throughout his time at United, Pogba was a frustrating figure because fans knew how much talent he possessed, but it was rarely evident on the pitch.

Pogba eventually returned to Juventus but the grass wasn’t greener on the other side as he received a four-year doping ban for consuming banned substances, although the suspension was reduced to 18 months.

Now, having had his Juventus contract terminated, Pogba is looking for a new club.

Kingsley Coman appalled by Manchester United

As one of Pogba’s close friends, it comes as no surprise to hear Coman take sides.

Pogba was an unhappy figure at United but it sounds like they are keen to point the finger and blame everyone but themselves.

From playing with France and Juventus, Pogba and Coman shared the pitch as team-mates on 41 occasions. They won Serie A and the Coppa Italia together in 2014/15 before Coman left for Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand, Coman explained how United’s treatment of Pogba from 2018 upset and shocked him.

“Actually I was sad about his time in Man U because I also felt like Man U was asking him to do too much,” Coman said.

“I think he was still as good but people ask him to score while he’s a midfield player. To do assist, to do everything. I think at one point he was even like the best goal scorer and assist man.

“This is not what you ask of a midfield player and when they ask you so much and that you can’t do your regular game.

“When you’re in the middle and you just give the ball to the people then you always need to do crazy things and even though he was the best you cannot play crazy and score.”

Trying to shift the blame away from Pogba, Coman added: “I think this is what this was and I really don’t think it was his fault.

“Obviously then maybe after he could have done something but I was really like when you ask him too much then was like you don’t ask him what you will ask from any other midfielder in the world.

“So then you need to play and then you lose more ball because you need to do more because they’re expecting you to do so much.

“It’s impossible; the regular game where you just take the ball and give it to the guy that will make the difference. They were like Pogba was not good today, didn’t do anything.”

Paul Pogba still searching for new club

The 2018 World Cup winner is now a free agent after leaving Juventus in November.

Pogba is set to return to football in March, with The Independent suggesting that Man City are considering a shock move for the 31-year-old.

That rumour seems far-fetched and several other clubs have been linked with Pogba since it was revealed he would be returning to football.

Ligue 1 outfit Marseille has been touted as a potential destination, which means he could become team-mates with former United starlet Mason Greenwood.

Pogba faces a massive challenge to get back to full fitness after his 18-month absence.
