Manchester United 2025/26 season has been about rebuilding, and the future looks bright.

The 2-1 victory over Brentford was the latest successful step in Manchester United’s push to secure Champions League qualification.

Only two more points are required, after Benjamin Sesko’s decisive strike at the end of the first half.

This was Sesko’s 11th goal of the season, and former player John O’Shea likes what he sees from the Slovenian striker.

John O’Shea backs Benjamin Sesko

John O’Shea told MUTV that he considers this season to be an adjustment period for Benjamin Sesko.

He is confident that Sesko will reach a new level next season, with the experience of 2025/26 behind him.

O’Shea explained: “He’ll be fully aware of the pressures of being a striker at Manchester United. Now, you get that kind of settling in period, but ultimately he’s in there to be the number nine to be at times.

“He was coming on and scoring his goals, and that was the kind of key to unlocking his potential, and that’ll be the key for him in the summer to kind of really power on.

“He knows defenders now in the Premier League, the physicality side of it, and his power and speed, I think he’ll start really dominating.”

It’s clear from watching him that Sesko has grown in confidence, especially when you look back to his performances in the first few weeks of the season.

The way he took his goal against Brentford was so impressive, with a deft touch to evade a defender, before powering the ball into the net.

Bright times ahead for Sesko

At only 22, Sesko could be at Manchester United for the next decade. That’s always the goal when the club invests big in a young player.

It doesn’t always work out this way, but there’s good reason to be confident in the growth Sesko has displayed.

He will also not be heading to the World Cup this summer after Slovenia failed to qualify, which will allow him to get a fast start in pre-season.

Next season there will be more games, with the Champions League, allowing further opportunities for Sesko to increase his goal tally.
