Manchester United’s first signing of the summer transfer window is officially here as Matheus Cunha has arrived at Old Trafford after an initial fee agreement earlier in June.
Matheus Cunha’s agreement was confirmed by Man Utd but his official unveiling was yet to be done but after Cunha’s international commitments, Man Utd fans can look forward to their new signing.
The Brazilian joins his “dream club” in Man Utd and this is the earliest Ineos have acted in the transfer window, making it clear how big a priority he was.
Director of football Jason Wilcox has now revealed the three traits Cunha’s arrival will help add to the team which would come as music to the ears of Ruben Amorim.

Jason Wilcox on Matheus Cunha’s Man Utd transfer
Wilcox is now the top dog at Old Trafford after Sir Dave Brailsford stepped back from his duties and Christopher Vivell became permanent in his role.
This is the first proper first-team signing to which he has lent his comments, which speaks volumes about his influence at the club and this signing.
Cunha’s arrival adds proven Premier League pedigree to the team which Wilcox was quick to point out, stressing three traits he will add to Amorim’s XI.
On Man Utd’s official website, Wilcox said: “Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window.
“He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and, before that, in Spain and Germany.
“He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic, and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”
Strong, dynamic, and entertaining is Ruben Amorim’s mantra
While most of the quotes when a new signing is announced can be copied and pasted to every new arrival, these three words by Wilcox stand out.
That is because they echo the message stressed by Amorim in numerous media interactions, as he talked about the physicality needed to succeed in the league.
“Strong” will be a buzzword for future Man Utd signings as well because Amorim’s system is clearly demanding and physically intense.
Then comes “dynamic”, as the players are expected to perform multiple roles over the course of 90 minutes regardless of whether they start positionally.
Cunha, like any other player, will be expected to contribute in multiple facets of play instead of being a luxury attacker who is only there to provide goals and assists.
The last word goes without saying. “Entertaining” is not a word that can be associated with United arguably since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.
A goal-shy outfit is getting a straight injection of about 49 goals and assists if Bryan Mbeumo follows Cunha, which is exactly what is needed to make this team entertaining again.
Amorim identified the issue, Wilcox is solving it, and Cunha is the first part of the solution with more to come. Man Utd are looking like a competent club again.
