Manchester United sporting director Jason Wilcox spoke extremely highly of Kobbie Mainoo when announcing his new contract.

It’s official. Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new contract, extending his stay with Manchester United until 2031.

Mainoo has received a big pay rise and has committed his long-term future to the project being built by Ineos at Old Trafford.

Since Ruben Amorim was sacked, Mainoo has been revitalised under Michael Carrick and has returned to being one of the key players in the first-team squad.

At just 21 years old, Kobbie Mainoo already has experience playing at the highest level for United and England, and he has thrived under the spotlight.

But there are bigger things still to come from the Carrington graduate, and sporting director Jason Wilcox is confident Mainoo can become one of the best in the world.

Via United’s official website, accompanying the Mainoo announcement, Wilcox said: “Kobbie is one of the most naturally gifted young footballers in the world.

“His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our outstanding academy system.

“We are delighted that Kobbie has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he will develop into one of the best players in the world, ready to play a pivotal role in a Manchester United team challenging for the biggest honours.”

Man Utd just secured Kobbie Mainoo’s prime years

By the time Mainoo’s contract expires in 2031, he will be 26 years old and in the prime of his career.

There is no release clause in Mainoo’s contract, so United have full negotiating power over keeping him at Old Trafford.

It is now up to Ineos to prove to Mainoo that he is part of a golden era in United’s long-term project, where the club can compete for major honours such as the Premier League and Champions League.

By the time Mainoo’s contract runs out, he could be playing in a new 100,000-seater stadium for a club that is back on the throne of English football.
