Manchester United sporting director Jason Wilcox is under the spotlight after Ruben Amorim’s sacking.
Despite Ruben Amorim’s poor win rate, it seems his sacking was a result of his comments and a behind-the-scenes fallout more than on-pitch performances.
Reports claim that Amorim had a good relationship with Jason Wilcox, but it seemed to completely deteriorate ahead of his final game against Leeds United.
What is your honest opinion of Jason Wilcox and his role as director of football?
Amorim lashed out at the club hierarchy and stated that he wanted to be the manager, not the head coach.
Wilcox admitted to interfering with tactics, which has raised questions about his role at the club. However, he has been kept on by Ineos and now set a new target for 2025/26.

Jason Wilcox sets new Man United target for 25/26
United recorded their worst-ever Premier League finish of 15th last season under Ruben Amorim, so expectations going into the new campaign were low.
Ineos wanted Amorim to finish in the top six, but suddenly, it seems the goalposts have been moved by Jason Wilcox halfway through the season.
According to The Sun, Wilcox addressed players after Amorim’s sacking and set a target of qualifying for the Champions League.
With Ruben Amorim SACKED, where will Manchester United finish in 2025/26?
Let's see your predictions!
Wilcox reportedly slammed the season as “disappointing”, despite the Red Devils sitting just three points away from the top four.
Amorim was on track to achieve his goal before being sacked, now it is up to Ineos to find an interim appointment to finish the campaign.
Man Utd interim appointment is make or break
The Premier League table is incredibly tight, with only nine points separating fourth place from 15th in the standings.
Replacing Amorim is now a top priority for Ineos, but it seems a short-term appointment could step in until the end of the season.
If the new head coach is able to piece together a good streak of results, United could easily find themselves in Champions League spots.
However, United have been in a similar situation with Ralf Rangnick and the season unfolded. If that happens again, it wouldn’t take long for the Red Devils to be starting at another hugely disappointing league finish.
