Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville both made clear-cut predictions for a key part of Manchester United’s 2024-25 season under manager Erik ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag inked a new contract extension with Manchester United this summer, despite a mixed second season in charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were in poor form in the Premier League last season and Ten Hag’s men only managed a lacklustre eighth-place finish in the table.

However, Ten Hag was able to sign off United’s 2023-24 campaign on a high note after the Red Devils’ sensational 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The 54-year-old United boss has already seen a hit-and-miss start to the 2024-25 season after a penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Following the Community Shield tie at Wembley earlier this month, Ten Hag’s side kicked off the Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford.

But United failed to build on the momentum of their hard-fought victory over Fulham and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Amex on Saturday.

Carragher and Neville’s Man Utd predictions

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were asked to rank three teams and the likelihood of which one would walk away with a trophy this season.

Manchester United secured Europa League football for the 2024-25 season after their FA Cup triumph at Wembley in May.

The Red Devils will also begin their FA Cup defence in the current season and compete in the Carabao Cup alongside their Premier League campaign.

Carragher placed United top of the list ahead of Liverpool after admitting that he backed the Red Devils to reach the Europa League semi-final or final this season.

“No, I’ll put United top. The reason being is they’re in the Europa League,” he said.

“Man United should be getting to [the] semi-final, final of the Europa League you’d expect, I would imagine.”

Neville, on the other hand, didn’t hesitate to respond to Liverpool legend Carragher by backing United to win a trophy this season.

“I think United will win a trophy this season,” he said.

Carragher added: “I’ve put United there because I think there’s probably more chance of them winning the Europa League than Liverpool winning the Champions League.”

Ten Hag on latest Man Utd setback

Ahead of the Europa League campaign, Erik ten Hag spoke about his frustration over United’s lack of consistency after their defeat to Brighton on the weekend.

“We need to be consistent so that is a step backwards,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“If you can’t win, then take the draw. We have to keep improving, work hard and that’s our job to do.

“Also, we have to work on both sides of our box game to be more effective because football, at the end of the day, is about scoring goals.”
