The brother of Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has reacted to criticism levelled against one player in the Red Devils’ shock 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
Manchester United kicked off the 2024-25 Premier League season under Erik ten Hag with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford.
Despite clinching all three points against Fulham at home, United were unable to capitalise on their momentum for their first away match of the campaign.
Former United striker Danny Welbeck came back to haunt the Red Devils after he fired Brighton into a first-half lead at the Amex on Saturday.
Erik ten Hag’s men rallied back into the contest in the second half and Amad Diallo cancelled out Danny Welbeck’s first-half opener against United.
United had thought they had taken the lead against Brighton after Alejandro Garnacho’s shot was turned in by summer signing Joshua Zirkzee off the line.
However, Joshua Zirkzee was deemed to be in an offside position by VAR when Garnacho’s strike hit the United striker’s knee.
Joao Pedro would inflict a devastating blow on United late into injury time after firing a close-range header past Andre Onana from a Simon Adingra cross inside the box.

Garnacho’s brother on Man Utd player
Alejandro Garnacho’s brother made his feelings clear on what he saw from the 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Amex on the weekend.
Roberto Garnacho took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and was baffled by the idea that people thought one Manchester United star played “bad.”
Erik ten Hag made the surprising decision to withdraw Bruno Fernandes in the 79th minute and replaced him with Scott McTominay for the remainder of the second half.
Garnacho responded to one United fan account suggesting that Bruno Fernandes was not playing well, saying that “all the attacks” were coming from the player.
“Literally all the attacks come from him, who is saying he played bad coz [WTF],” he wrote in response.
Ten Hag on Brighton defeat
United now face a tough test against Premier League rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford this weekend ahead of the international break in September.
Speaking after the Brighton defeat, Ten Hag insisted that he could “take a lot of positives from the performance” by United players at the Amex.
“I think there were some very good parts in the game,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“We had a lot of control in possession, we created good chances, we showed resilience, we came back and then we scored what we thought was a winning goal – so [it was] bad luck that the ball was on the line just before the line.
“It’s touched by [Joshua] Zirkzee so that’s a pity, you have to take this, it’s a disappointment but I can take a lot of positives from the performance.”
