Jadon Sancho’s ‘freedom’ dig spectacularly backfires after Man Utd fans discover ruthless comparison with one player

Jadon Sancho’s reaction to Marcus Rashford’s Aston Villa debut sparked a hilarious — and brutal — putdown from one Manchester United fan account on social media.

The 24-year-old Manchester United player was sent out on loan to Stamford Bridge last summer and will not return to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Chelsea agreed to sign Jadon Sancho and the deal included an obligation for the Blues to sign the United winger for a £20m to £25m fee this coming summer.

Sancho disappointed during his spell at the Red Devils and the United loanee spent the second half of last season out on loan at former club Borussia Dortmund.

The Chelsea player returned to Old Trafford last summer, but Sancho was deemed surplus to requirement at the Premier League club and was axed.

Sancho had a high-profile falling out with United manager Erik ten Hag in the 2023-24 campaign and the ex-England international was offloaded to Chelsea in 2024.

Sancho left red-faced with comparison

Marcus Rashford left Old Trafford earlier this month and completed a loan move to Premier League club Aston Villa before the winter window shut.

The 27-year-old Manchester United player had fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim and Aston Villa agreed to cover most of his wages as part of the loan.

Villa did not pay a loan fee for their acquisition of Rashford and the deal to sign the Red Devils attacker included an option to buy him for £40m.

Rashford made his debut for Villa on Sunday after he came off the bench for the 2-1 fourth-round FA Cup win over Tottenham at Villa Park.

The England star spoke out after making his first appearance for Villa and Jadon Sancho later aimed a dig at United by responding with “freedom” in the comments.

A United fan account on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, highlighted a savage comparison of Sancho’s stats with Harry Maguire’s stats.

Sancho has only netted two times in 22 matches in the 2024-25 campaign, which is the same number of times that Harry Maguire has scored in 24 fixtures this season.

Unai Emery on Rashford’s Villa debut

Speaking in his post-match press conference on Sunday, Villa boss Unai Emery welcomed Rashford’s arrival at Villa Park after the player made his debut under him.

“We have to build the team again after the circumstances we had,” he said, as per Birmingham Live.

“Lamare Bogarde played consistently again when we needed him. Andres Garcia and Malen both played in the idea we had. They were consistent and focused.

“As well, Marcus Rashford and Asensio, we watched their skill and how they helped us and will help us again in the next months in the different competitions we will face.

“We are in a new way after the changes we did. We are demanding because we still need to improve due to some tactical issues and how we want to compete in the Premier League.”
