Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland is close to signing a contract with Rangers.
We told last week how a report from The Athletic had stated Jack Butland will be released at the end of the current season.
Butland is on loan at Manchester United until the end of June. And in theory, he could be retained as a back-up, with Tom Heaton‘s contract set to expire.
It appears Butland has other plans. The Scottish Sun report Butland is set to sign with Rangers.

Butland ‘on the brink’
Jack Butland has an offer to become Rangers’ number one goalkeeper, and is said to be ‘on the brink’ of agreeing a move.
Butland has not played a single game for Manchester United since joining in the January transfer window.
He is a back-up, having recently jumped from third choice to second, after Tom Heaton’s recent injury.
The former England international is still only 30 and can still have a lengthy career as a back-up in the year ahead.
This chance to be Rangers’ number one is a very intriguing opportunity for him and I can’t blame him for wanting to take it.
It does ask a big question over the make-up of United’s goalkeeper department next season, with back-ups Heaton and Butland expected to depart.
David de Gea does seem like he will get a new deal. I don’t think that’s the right move either. United need to move on, and find a younger, more all-round goalkeeper.
Butland still has a part to play this season as De Gea’s back-up. Hopefully United won’t need him, that’s likewise with any number two, but if he is required, he will have to step up, and not be distracted by his next step.
