Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam has slated one of Erik ten Hag’s first signings as ‘not good enough’ for the Red Devils.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been busy in the summer transfer window as the Red Devils look to improve on last season.
Just this week, United confirmed the double deal of Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui with the former Ajax pairing set to play a key role for the Red Devils this season.
United have also signed Leny Yoro from Lille and have also improved their striking department with the signing of Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee.
However, former United defender Jaap Stam has taken umbrage with a deal Ten Hag did two summers ago.

Jaap Stam slates Antony for ‘not being good enough’
Since his £85 million move to United from Ajax back in the summer of 2022, Antony has failed to impress large swathes of the Red Devils fanbase as the Brazilian has struggled to make an impact at the club.
Turkish giants Besiktas vetoed a move for Antony and it seems the Brazilian could well be third or even fourth choice under Ten Hag.
Speaking on Up Front With Simon Jordan, the legendary Dutch defender shared his frustrations over the Brazilian.
“The current United culture is completely different to how it was when I was a player,” Stam said. “You need to raise the bar and set the standards high, but you also need to get your recruitment right and get the right players in.
“If we’re looking at United’s team over the last couple of years and the players that have come in, yes there have been some young, talented individuals but there are also others that are debatable and not good enough for this level.
“I think Antony did well in Holland and showed some quality there, but when you go to a different league and go to United with a big price tag it’s not the same. The club need to bring in better players. With Antony, he’s been there almost two seasons and you can’t keep saying he will come good eventually.”
Antony really is at the last chance saloon stage at United
The Brazilian winger has scored just 11 times during his two seasons at Old Trafford and for £95 million, United need a lot better from the winger.
Another expensive winger who hasn’t worked out is Jadon Sancho and the Englishman is back at United this season, so the Brazilian may find himself further down the pecking order.
Antony is one of a number of former Ajax players who played for United but the Brazilian has, so far, fared the worst out of all of them.
