It’s safe to say Manchester United legend Jaap Stam was NOT happy when gifted a Liverpool jersey by their captain, Virgil van Dijk.
The two dutch defenders sat down together in an exclusive interview in preparation for Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City, which ended in a 4-1 defeat for the Merseysiders.
But although Stam did leave United on somewhat bad terms, it’s clear to see that the Red Devils are the only English club in his heart after van Dijk offered him a Liverpool jersey midway through the interview.

Jaap Stam’s reaction to being given a Liverpool shirt
You can check out the big Dutchman’s reaction right here.
You can see by the motion he makes what he’s getting at, however, the Dutch translates to “Can we cut this?” in English.
A fitting response from a player that was amongst the finest centre-half’s to ever grace the Old Trafford turf.
Stam won three league titles during his three-year spell at Old Trafford and was surprisingly sold to Lazio in 2001 as Sir Alex Ferguson brought in the ageing Laurent Blanc in his place.
Many fans disagreed with this decision, and eventually, Sir Alex Ferguson even admitted he was wrong in doing so.
The reasoning behind it was that Stam had suffered from an achilles injury and Ferguson and his staff believed he would quickly fall off, so they decided to take the £16.5 million from Lazio and run.
Not the wisest move the legendary Scotsman has ever made.
This wasn’t the case and Stam endured many more fine years at the top, even moving to AC Milan and Ajax after his three-year stint at Lazio.
He hasn’t let his unfair treatment tarnish his love for the club though, which is evidently proven by the video above.
