‘Is that fair… Roy Keane questions what Ruben Amorim told Patrick Dorgu to do against Leicester City

Manchester United booked their place in the FA Cup’s Fifth Round with a narrow win against Leicester City.

The Red Devils were lucky to get past Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Foxes. The away side were the game’s better side for the majority of the first half and kept United quiet for 68 minutes.

And had it not been for a late, and wrongly allowed, winner from Harry Maguire, Leicester could’ve progressed.

Far from what they’re capable of, there were concerns Ruben Amorim had once again failed to get the best out of his players, and one player in particular was played out of position.

Ruben Amorim criticised for Patrick Dorgu decision

Signed in the January transfer window, Patrick Dorgu made his debut on Friday night. The young wing-back was named in United’s starting lineup to face Leicester City.

However, despite being wanted for his ability to play as an attacking left wing-back, Amorim positioned him on the right and kept Diogo Dalot on the other flank.

Speaking about Dorgu half-time on ITV, Roy Keane questioned Amorim’s decision to play the new signing out of position.

“They bring new players in, and you think he’s going to play left wing-back but he’s playing right wing-back. Is that fair on other players?” he said.

Although the 20-year-old enjoyed decent moments in the first half and seemed to link up well with Amad, he was subbed off at the break for Alejandro Garnacho, who won the Man of the Match award.

Another failed experiment

Amorim’s decision to leave Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee on the bench against Crystal Palace and play Kobbie Mainoo as a False 9 saw the United manager come under fire.

The experiment to tweak his attacking line did not work out, with Palace running out convincing 2-0 winners at Old Trafford last weekend.

While fans will accept Amorim needing to find his best system and line up, he has had several months now, and there has been no progression made in the way the side plays.

It’s no good making new signings to solve problems if they’re going to be played in positions they’re not so familiar with.
