Manchester United beat Leicester City in dramatic fashion on Friday night to secure an FA Cup fifth-round spot.
As usual, Ruben Amorim’s side made a meal of a tie which should have been favourable.
Amorim slated his team’s performance, explaining that the result was good, but the performance was simply not good enough.

Manchester United came from behind, thanks to Joshua Zirkzee’s equaliser and then Harry Maguire’s 93rd-minute winner.
United’s first-half set-up was slammed by Paul Scholes – while the introduction of Alejandro Garnacho was a game-changer, another United star also deserves plenty of praise.

Joshua Zirkzee has best performance in months
Garnacho has been showered in praise and rightly so, however, Garnacho’s teammate was equally as impressive in his cameo.
Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Old Trafford has not been ideal – but Friday night saw him put in possibly the best performance he has in months, with his brace against Everton the only display to compete.
With United trailing, Zirkzee stepped up to the plate and finished off a chance which fell to him in a composed fashion, sparking a comeback.
After the game, MUTV pundit Wes Brown ensured Zirkzee’s contribution was not forgotten.
“Garnacho made the biggest turnaround of the game, but Zirkzee did really well as well.”
Zirkzee shines for Manchester United
With the striker role for United very much up for grabs, Zirkzee’s strong performance has come at the ideal time for his chances of moving ahead of Rasmus Hojlund.
Despite only getting 26 minutes, Zirkzee impressed and he caught the eye beyond his goal.
- 26 minutes
- 1 goal
- 19 touches
- 1/1 successful dribbles
- 4/5 tackles won
- 5 defensive actions
- 3 recoveries
- 7/10 duels won
Zirkzee looked much sharper and quicker – contrasting how slow and rusty his performances were throughout December. This resulted in Zirkzee beating defenders and also being a nuisance as he won the ball on numerous occasions.
If United can get this version of Zirkzee on a regular basis, it could prove to be a game-changer for United as it clearly was against Leicester.
It certainly seems like Amorim has a new front-runner to lead the line next weekend.
