Fernandes’ only strike came in the last international break for Portugal. This time he has been unable to score.
Portugal as a team were held scoreless by Scotland, drawing 0-0 at Hampden, with Mais Futebol remarking Cristiano Ronaldo ‘looked lost in the Scottish Highlands’.

Portugal dominated the game with 70 per cent of possession and had 14 shots to Scotland’s four. Yet could not make the breakthrough.
Bruno Fernandes did come close to breaking the deadlock when he followed up a shot from Rafael Leao, but he was foiled by Craig Gordon in goal.
Portuguese outlet ZeroZero gave Fernandes just 5/10 for his performance, which was better than the 4/10 given to Liverpool’s Diogo Jota.
Goal also gave Fernandes a 5/10, noting: “Played a deeper role than he is used to at Manchester United and ultimately failed to carve the breakthrough Portugal needed.”
Sapo Desporto reported that Fernandes’ tactical shift ‘almost had immediate results’ when he was moved even deeper in the second half. But not enough.
Scotland’s resolute display made this the first time Portugal have dropped points in the UEFA Nations League or qualifying campaign under Roberto Martinez.
WhoScored gave Fernandes a 6.8 performance rating while SofaScore gave him a 7.3 rating.
Fernandes created two goalscoring chances, completed 85 per cent of his passes, and had one shot on target.

Bruno Fernandes would not have wanted to play a part in yet another frustrating 0-0.
Fernandes has been involved in two goalless draws for United against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa over the past few weeks. He hit the bar in both games.
The Manchester United midfielder’s impressive track record suggests he will be back amongst the goals sooner rather than later.
