Facundo Pellistri can consider himself incredibly unlucky since he completed his move to Manchester United during the rather shambolic Summer window of 2020.
During this summer, United were meant to be splashing out over £100 million for Jadon Sancho and weren’t really linked with anyone else. However, when that deal fell through, United switched their targets.
They signed Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani, Amad Diallo, and a relatively unknown Uruguayan winger.
Pellistri, who signed from Penarol, was the player who fans knew the least about. Apart from a few videos here and there, he didn’t stand out. He went on two loan spells to Alaves and failed to score a goal or provide an assist, he looked like another mistake from United.
Since then, the winger has had a bit part role at United where he has finally shown his capabilities and has looked exciting but has struggled to break into the first team. Well, he could be about to earn his chance soon.

Amad injury leaves a spot vacant
The unfortunate injury to another exciting winger in Amad means United may well give the youngster a chance to shine from the right if Antony has a poor start to the season.
Jadon Sancho has been deployed as a false nine during pre-season, so unless Mason Greenwood comes back, Pellistri will be the backup right-winger.
MORE UNITED STORIES
This could be the chance he has been craving to stake a claim in Erik ten Hag’s first team plans because he is certainly good enough to do so.
His explosive pace, his unpredictability, and his quality off both feet make him an asset for any side in need of a winger.
Pellistri loan option
Despite the opportunity he could be about to receive, the Uruguayan has been linked with a move on loan to Dutch side FC Twente according to TwenteFans. Erik ten Hag is said to have given the winger advice about which side to join, with the Dutch side being the favourite of the managers.
The winger really should be given an opportunity to impress as United need more wingers who aren’t afraid to take on their man in explosive fashion.
Alejandro Garnacho may well be the only explosive winger who fits that bill, but certainly, Pellistri has all the tools to do it on the other side, it’ll be interesting to see if the winger gets his chance to shine at Old Trafford this season.
