Manchester United will have to consult Ineos on any major transfer or managerial decision they decide to make over the next month or two.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos finally announced that a deal had been agreed to purchase 25 per cent of Manchester United on Christmas Eve after weeks of it being public knowledge that the 71-year-old was to be a minority shareholder at Old Trafford.
As well as this, Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc have also been confirmed to be a part of the board which should be hugely exciting for fans of the Red Devils.
Despite this excitement, it could well take up to two months for the deal to be ratified as the group have to pass the Premier League’s Owners and Directors test, but this is not expected to be a problem.
Ineos’ decision
The exciting aspect about Ineos’ minority stake in the club is the power that the wield, despite the Glazers being in charge of United, the sporting decisions will be made by Ratcliffe and his team.
Brailsford was spotted at Old Trafford during United’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa and it seems, according to the Manchester Evening News, that Ineos will have the final say over the big decisions at the club.
Whether it’s Erik ten Hag’s or John Murtough’s future at the club, Ineos have the final say and not the Glazer family, which will no doubt come as a relief to the United fanbase.
The other area that Ineos will have a major say in is of course transfers. As Ineos now waits to be permitted to begin work at Old Trafford, it is looking likely that the January transfer window will pass them by.
However, if the Glazer family wants to back Ten Hag with signings in the winter window, approval from Ineos will also be needed.
A lot of work needs to be done
This statement shouldn’t surprise any United fan but there will be a lot of work needed for the Red Devils to be back at the summit of English football.
A new director of football, a plan for the stadium that is in desperate need of some renovation and also a contingency plan if Ten Hag is to be replaced is needed.
Fans should be excited, however, as you would imagine Ineos, who have years of sporting experience, have a plan for United.
