Manchester United are on the verge of confirming Ruben Amorim’s first signing.

The Red Devils are set to welcome Patrick Dorgu after agreeing a £30 million (€35 million) deal with Lecce.

Dorgu’s medical is due to take place on Thursday with the move likely to be made official the following day.

And while fans prepare for Dorgu’s arrival, they’ve been teased over what they can expect from the young Denmark international.

Patrick Dorgu compared to Premier League star

Dorgu is only 20 years old so he is still a very raw talent, but working in Amorim’s 3-5-2 system will undoubtedly aid his development.

Dorgu is an incredibly versatile and hard-working wing-back and is naturally gifted with his left foot.

His style of play, best attributes and positioning have drawn comparisons to one of Mikel Arteta’s best players at Arsenal. While assessing the incoming Dorgu, The Athletic believe he closely resembles England’s Bukayo Saka.

A snippet from the outlet’s in-depth look at Dorgu said: “Naturally a left-footed player, Dorgu has been deployed as a typical overlapping left-back, as a left winger, as a left wing-back, as a right-back and as right winger when managers have wanted him to cut inside on his left foot and shoot on goal. (There is some similarity with Bukayo Saka’s emergence at left-back for Arsenal before he evolved into the formidable right winger the Premier League knows today.)”

Given that Saka started in a similar role as Dorgu, and has the same kind of traits, as well as the fact he’s gone on to score 52 Premier League goals for the Gunners, is a genuinely exciting prospect for United fans who haven’t been treated to many successful signings in recent years.

Dorgu’s work rate key to Amorim’s plans

It’s no secret — Dorgu is highly regarded and considered one of the hardest-working wing-backs in Europe.

Although the 20-year-old isn’t known for his one-on-one defending, he has so much stamina and will run through walls for his teammates — this alone should elevate some pressure on the back line.

Not only that, but everything else he is good at, especially his ability to get about the pitch, should help Amorim take a big step toward installing his philosophy at Old Trafford.

The 40-year-old cannot change things overnight, but Dorgu’s impending arrival will be the first piece of the puzzle, and fans understandably cannot wait to see if there will be an instant impact.
