Manchester United have signed Wout Weghorst on loan for the rest of the season, giving the striker a second chance in the Premier League.
Weghorst’s first spell was a forgettable one, signing on loan with a Burnley side which already looked doomed for relegation.
His tally of two goals in 20 matches was disappointing, and a rare mis-step in an otherwise successful career, which has seen him net 170 club goals.
But it wasn’t all bad. In addition to an assist against Manchester United, there were some games for Burnley where it did all come together for him.

Wright comments on Weghorst
One of Weghorst’s better games in a Burnley shirt came in a 3-0 away win against Graham Potter’s Brighton, with the Dutch striker netting the opener.
Weghorst scored one goal and provided an assist, showing what he was capable of, and it is this kind of display Manchester United are looking for from him.
The striker’s performance was hailed by pundit Ian Wright on Match of the Day, with his comments reported by the Lancashire Telegraph.
Wright said: “His link-up play and the problems he caused all day kept Burnley in a position on the field where they could cause problems.
“When you see the position he takes up for his goal, it is fantastic, and the calmness with the way he took it.
“He gets himself in the middle but then he just stops, and the composure and the clinical way he finished it was brilliant.
“This is exactly what you want from your centre forward, causing the defender all sorts of problems. He has no right to get that.”
United are looking for a ‘proper centre-forward’, who can add a new dimension to the team. Weghorst proved on this day he can cut it against a very good Premier League side, and there should be no worries about his ability to do the same in a Red Devils shirt.
Surrounded by top talent and the creative minds of Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and co, Weghorst could be a huge success.
He has been involved in first team training already and could make his debut against Crystal Palace this week.
Then a big role could await against Ian Wright’s former side Arsenal next weekend in a top of the table clash.
