Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes one Manchester United star was at the mercy of a “magnificent” Liverpool move during the Premier League match at Old Trafford.

Liverpool inflicted a devastating 3-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester United on Sunday ahead of the September international break.

Arne Slot’s side were 2-0 up against United by half-time after Liverpool star Luis Diaz completed his brace for the Red Devils in seven minutes.

Mohamed Salah then netted in the second half to extend Liverpool’s lead and ensured the Reds secured all three Premier League points.

Liverpool have won all three of their opening Premier League matches, while United have only picked up one victory in the current campaign.

Erik ten Hag’s men defeated Fulham 1-0 at Old Trafford in their Premier League opener before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Amex.

Wright talks Man Utd star

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, Ian Wright spotlighted Casemiro’s performance for Manchester United against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Casemiro was met with intense criticism after his shocking performance, with the Brazilian midfielder at fault on both occasions in Luis Diaz’s brace.

The 32-year-old former Real Madrid star only managed 45 minutes against the Reds before United boss Erik ten Hag was forced to pull him off for the second half.

Ten Hag replaced Casemiro with United academy prospect Toby Collyer, who was handed his Premier League debut at Old Trafford.

Wright waxed lyrical about the Liverpool press during the first half and how Casemiro was “targeted” by Arne Slot’s men in the attack.

“We know Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Mo and Virgil [Van Dijk] are coming to their last years,” he said.

“At the moment, with the way they’re playing, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to bother them too much, that’s for the people upstairs.

“At the same time, the way they’re playing, Manchester United and Liverpool, how intense that can be, how basketball-y it can be and how basketball-y we’ve seen it in those games where Man United have come out on top, they looked nowhere near that happening.

“The press from Liverpool was magnificent and you have to feel for Casemiro because as good as is and as good as he was as a player, Liverpool were just too good.

“I think he was someone that was targeted, definitely targeted, but it’s that mid-press and that high-press. That was brilliant from them.”

Bruno Fernandes on Casemiro vs Liverpool

Speaking after the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, United captain Bruno Fernandes made his feelings clear that Casemiro is far “more experienced” than him in football.

“Casemiro is more experienced than me. I don’t need to tell him anything, he knows what football is about,” he told Sky Sports, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“He’s played for the two best clubs in the world.

“Kobbie [Mainoo] is an excellent kid. I want him to try more and do this because it’s part of his game. They are huge players for us and will keep being.”
