It’s fair to say there were some unhappy opinions coming from the Manchester United fanbase when Zidane Iqbal was sold.

Zidane Iqbal struggled for minutes at Old Trafford but looked impressive during Manchester United’s pre-season tour in the summer of 2022.

The Iraq international midfielder particularly impressed during the win over Liverpool in the off-season in 2022 and the youngster looked to be the next academy man who would be thrust into the limelight at Old Trafford.

However, this summer marked the end of his time in Manchester and the club agreed to sell the 20-year-old to Dutch side FC Utrecht, but he has yet to make an impact.

Iqbal’s struggles

The midfielder has failed to make his mark in the Eredivisie so far as he has featured in just one match in the top league in Dutch football so far.

In that match, the midfielder featured for just six minutes as his struggles in the Netherlands have been clear to see.

This is mainly down to the raft of injury problems he has had since he moved away from Manchester.

Iqbal was struggling to deal with an injury prior to his move to Utrecht according to the Manchester Evening News which has meant his game time has been limited.

The precise nature injuries that he has suffered aren’t known but these problems have meant that the 20-year-old has missed 11 games for the Dutch side this season, with his current injury meaning he has been out for 52 days.

Injury issues plaguing midfielder

Iqbal looked very promising during his stint in the United first team and he has just been very unlucky with injury problems since he completed his £800,000 move to the Eredivisie.

“Zidane is a very creative midfielder, with a very good insight into the game,” is how Technical Director Jordy Zuidam described the young midfielder on the club’s website when Iqbal completed his move to the club in July.

It’s been a very difficult time for the midfielder as of late and the hope will be that he can shake off these injury issues and make the impact that is expected of him in Holland.
