Ruben Amorim will have loved what he saw from Manchester United on Wednesday night after a 5-2 win vs Leicester City.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first managerial outing at Old Trafford was a categorical success with Manchester United coming out comfortable victors in a seven-goal thriller.
It was the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and United made quick work of Leicester City, finishing the game off before half-time after Casemiro made it 4-1 in the 39th minute.
This was Casemiro’s second of the game, explaining why he was among United’s standout performers in the match. He was joined on the scoresheet by Bruno Fernandes with a brace and also Alejandro Garnacho – adding up to a 5-2 United win.
Ruben Amorim will no doubt have been watching this game as he looks set to be named the next permanent United manager – although we may have to wait for his first game.

Ruud van Nistelrooy open to working with Ruben Amorim
With Amorim edging closer and closer, rumours around Van Nistelrooy have suggested that he will exit United when Amorim arrives.
This would be disappointing, considering he is a cult hero at Old Trafford and Amorim could use having a coach who understands the club – while also being excellent at his job.
However, contrary to these reports, Tyrone Marshall of the Manchester Evening News has now reported that Van Nistelrooy wants to stay.
Taking to X, Marshall tweeted that: “Ruud van Nistelrooy tells Sky Sports he is happy to stay on as interim manager and is open to being a part of Ruben Amorim’s coaching set-up”.
Now, whether Amorim wants Van Nistelrooy is another subject entirely, but if the Dutchman is looking to stay then we see no reason he would be shoved out the door.
Who will be in Amorim’s coaching staff at Manchester United?
Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford seems more a question of when rather than if – and now it seems possible his coaching set-up could entail Van Nistelrooy if he agrees.
The Portuguese manager would however also be bringing his own three coaches with him according to reports – signalling the end for the likes of Rene Hake.
Amorim is looking to bring his trusted and talented No.2 Carlos Fernandes to Old Trafford – along with Adelio Candido and then goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital.
Fernandes in particular is an exciting addition to the staff, with the 29-year-old tipped to achieve great things in football.
So Van Nistelrooy staying likely hinges on where he can fit in with this structure. Luckily for Ineos, they likely have a few weeks to figure it all out.
