How many fans will be in attendance for Manchester United v Leeds at Old Trafford?

The 2020/21 Premier League season was largely played out behind closed doors and never in front of a capacity crowd.

But as Manchester United gear up for the opening game of their campaign against Leeds, supporters will be allowed back in greater numbers.

Around 50,000 fans were at Old Trafford for the 4-0 friendly win against Everton last week.

But how many will be there as United resume their rivalry with bitter rivals Leeds?

How many fans will be in attendance?

A capacity 76,000 crowd is expected at Old Trafford on Saturday, according to the Telegraph.

The atmosphere should be electric as United play in front of a full house for the first time since March 2020.

Last season, both games between the sides were played behind closed doors.

United thumped Leeds 6-2 at Old Trafford, but tomorrow’s game is likely to be tighter with fans in attendance.

The Whites fanbase have waited since 2004 to be back at Old Trafford for a league game and they’ll travel in numbers and make plenty of noise themselves.

United’s last game in front of a capacity ground was also a raucous occasion against an old rival.

Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay scored to see off Manchester City and Old Trafford was rocking.

Little did anybody know that it would be 17 months before such an atmosphere would be seen again.

Both sets of fans in attendance will make it a fantastic occasion, and hopefully it will be accompanied by a home win.

Update

United confirmed the official attendance for the fixture as 72,732. It was just below capacity – but the highest at Old Trafford since March 2020.
