Lisandro Martinez played every minute as Argentina defeated Canada 2-0 and headed through to the Copa America final, here’s how he played.

On a week when five Manchester United players could reach the finals of their respective international competitions, Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho have done so with Argentina.

Beating Canada 2-0, the world champions march into another final and look well-placed to lift a third consecutive trophy.

Here Martinez could be met by a club teammate, while the English players find out their fate on Wednesday night, with potentially five in the finals this summer of either Euro 2024 or Copa America, not including players who seem set to join Old Trafford.

Against Canada in the Copa America semi-final, Manchester United’s No.6 played the entire game as a centre-half for his country.

It wasn’t his absolute best display, but how impressive he was therefore says plenty about just how special a player Martinez is.

An impressive outing which even on what wasn’t his best day, showed signs to have excitement as the butcher will be back to his best this season after an injury-laden 2023/24 campaign.

Martinez now has a Copa America final to prepare for, where he will face either Colombia or Facundo Pellistri and Manuel Ugarte’s Uruguay.

How did the Argentine press react to Martinez’s display

Martinez’s display wasn’t the best he’s put in during this tournament so far, but clearly, it caught some attention.

First up Pagina 12 rated Martinez a 6/10 which was high among his fellow defenders, and wrote: “Even with some carelessness, well in the mark and neat in the exit, he was the one who seemed to encourage Tagliafico to offer himself as an attack option.”

El Sol also scored Martinez a 6/10 but described it as a standard game for the butcher: “Another regular match of the Manchester United defender. They get along perfectly with Cuti.”

Finally, TYC Sports also gave Martinez a 6/10 which suggests his performance went down pretty unanimously: “Safe at the exit, attentive to the mark so as not to ever pay. He went from the side in front of Tagliafico’s exit.”
