Former Manchester United youngster D’Mani Mellor has continued to struggle with injury setbacks since joining Wycombe Wanderers.

Mellor was released by Manchester United last summer, and ended the 2021/22 season strongly for the under-21 side.

Hoping for a fresh start in the professional ranks, Mellor’s time at Wycombe has been a stop-start one…

How has D’Mani Mellor fared at Wycombe Wanderers since being released by Manchester United

The 22-year-old signed for the Chairboys following his release from the Red Devils last summer.

Wycombe’s number 21 has only started one League One game under Gareth Ainsworth, which came back in August.

Mellor, who netted his first professional goal back in August in the Carabao Cup, hasn’t featured since mid-November.

From nine League One appearances this season, Mellor has racked up only 142 minutes of game time.

The Manchester United Academy graduate endured a tricky loan spell with League Two side Salford City last season, in what was at the time his first move away from Old Trafford.

Mellor made just three appearances, which brought 20 minutes of game time, for the side that are partially owned by the Class of 92 before returning to United and being reintegrated into the club’s under-21 side for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.

Mellor’s move to Salford came after he recovered from cruciate knee ligament surgery which ruled him out for a year.

The forward made one appearance for the United first team and that came under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when the Norwegian took a squad packed with youth to Kazakhstan to face Astana in the Europa League.

In November 2019, Mellor came off the bench in the 65th minute to replace Tahith Chong and make his Red Devils bow.

From 66 games for United’s youth sides, Mellor scored 22 goals and supplied 12 assists.

Wycombe currently sit seventh in League One and are two points off the play-off spots with Ainsworth’s side no doubt targeting a return to the Championship after losing last season’s League One play-off final against Sunderland.
