The U17 World Cup has kicked off this week, and there are plenty of Manchester United interests in the tournament, including Cristian Orozco.
Next summer, Cristian Orozco is set to join United for £750,000, following his 18th birthday.
Manchester United will have to wait to see Orozco in red, but this month, there is plenty of chance to watch him in action.
Orozco has worn the captain’s armband for Colombia as they kicked off their U17 World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against the holders Germany.
Colombia were really impressive and deserved the win, with Orozco key for the South Americans.

Cristian Orozco has strong showing for Colombia
This was the first chance many will have had to see Orozco in action, and he was certainly impressive.
The number six won’t make headlines as he doesn’t score or assist, but Orozco didn’t put a foot wrong, dictating play and dominating defensively to secure a draw against Germany.
The 17-year-old looked strong, composed, and professional in midfield, never going above second gear, which gave him almost a Sergio Busquets-like presence in the midfield.
One of the best players on the pitch for Colombia, and a really positive sign that United have signed a real talent. Orozco might be United’s wonderkid Casemiro replacement, with early signs very positive.
Orozco stats vs Germany
Orozco looks completely at home against serious opposition in that German team, and his performance deserves praise.
- 90 minutes
- 4 shots
- 76 per cent pass rate
- 28 passes
- 56 touches
- 3 tackles won
- 7 recoveries
- 4/7 ground duels won
- 2/2 aerial duels won
This showcases Orozco’s ability, which could see him evolve into an elite defensive midfielder.
Next, Colombia faces El Salvador and then North Korea.
