How Donny van de Beek fared in Girona debut after £500k Man Utd exit

Donny van de Beek’s career at Manchester United was disappointing, but now he’s made his debut for Girona.

After a series of disappointing campaigns at Old Trafford, Donny van de Beek finally got his permanent move away this summer.

The Dutchman moved to La Liga side Girona in July for a fee of £500k initially, although it could end up rising as high as £7.6m.

It was a perfect move for Donny, with Spanish football being a good fit for his abilities, something Manchester United and the Premier League were not.

Now, he has made his full debut for Girona. Here is how he fared…

Donny van de Beek makes Girona debut

Van de Beek impressed Bruno Fernandes during pre-season for Girona, but now his first La Liga outing has come and gone.

As Girona battered Osasuna 4-0 on Thursday, Van de Beek was on the bench until the 81st minute.

However, when he came on he had quite an impact, assisting the fourth and final Girona goal.

Aside from his assist, Van de Beek had six touches of the ball and completed just one pass out of three attempts.

It was far from a cameo which would have blown fans away, but the assist should be a huge confidence boost for the ex-United midfielder.

Van de Beek was wearing the No.6 on his shirt and his introduction to the fans will have been a happy one, now we hope he can kick on and salvage his career.

Manchester United continue to recoup transfer fees

In previous summers, Manchester United had struggled to sell, which is what led to the situation of Van de Beek.

But Ineos have fixed this problem over the past few months, ruthlessly axing several players who had been at the club for years up until recently.

£79m has been brought in up-front so far with plenty more to come in add-ons and bonuses. Not to mention there could be more sales yet to come, such as Scott McTominay to Napoli.

This is very encouraging and a huge step in the right direction considering how many players are still at the club who should also be sold.
