Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first year at United has been swamped with controversy. The British billionaire angered fans in November when he announced ticket prices are rising to £66.

Ironically, Ratcliffe used ticket prices at clubs such as Fulham as justification for the price hike. United also informed fans that price rises were necessary due to struggles with PSR.

It is just one of several controversial decisions made by Ratcliffe and Ineos over the past 12 months. A post-season tour of Malaysia has also been organised to try and raise cash.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer slam latest Ineos plan

The arrival of Ratcliffe and Ineos certainly hasn’t helped matters on the pitch. United are slumped down in 12th in the Premier League table.

Off the pitch, things have gotten even worse for match-going fans with ticket prices increasing and the state of Old Trafford deteriorating.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Rest is Football, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have slammed Ineos for discussing a further increase to ticket prices.

Lineker said: “They’ve made a real mess of it so far. They are talking about putting ticket prices up again.”

“How dare they,” Shearer interjected.

Lineker continued: “Financially they are having difficulties. You just think… you’re going to put this on the fans? They’ve been suffering enough with the football that is being played.

“You go and pay for our errors” Shearer added.

“The stadium is run down. I’ve got a number of friends that support Manchester Untied that go to games and say the matchday experience is nothing like it was even a few years ago.

“There are major concerns about that football club.”

Ineos risk being painted with the same brush as Glazers

At Craven Cottage, United’s brilliant support repeatedly told Ratcliffe that he is just as bad as the Glazers.

It is a damning reflection of just how bad his first year as owner has gone. It has not been all bad under Ineos… Ratcliffe has introduced top-level footballing staff behind the scenes and talks are ongoing for a 100,000-seater stadium to be built.

But Ratcliffe’s ruthless penny-pinching knows no ends, and it has angered staff and fans.

Ratcliffe brutally cut 250 jobs at United and has stripped workers of many benefits, including Christmas bonuses. Players were also hit with Ineos deciding to cancel all traditional perks for last season’s FA Cup final.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes offered to pay for the usual extras out of his own pocket but his request was denied.

The Glazers are universally hated by United fans for what they did to the club during their reign. Ratcliffe is at risk of building a similar reputation.
