Harry Maguire’s brilliant form for Manchester United over the past five months has failed to turn into a World Cup place.

Thomas Tuchel’s England squad isn’t officially announced until Friday, but already, there is confirmation that Harry Maguire won’t be involved this summer in North America.

Reports emerged, claiming the Manchester United defender had been left off the squad list, which looks to end the 60-year trophy drought next month.

Maguire has been brilliant for United, with many assuming his form would guarantee his place on the plane, but it wasn’t to be. Now, the 33-year-old has sent a message.

Harry Maguire responds to missing out on England’s World Cup squad

Maguire has been denied a third World Cup appearance by Tuchel, in a decision which could come back to bite the German if he isn’t successful.

But ever the professional, Maguire has taken the snubbing well. Now, he has posted on Instagram with his reaction to the blow.

“I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision.

“I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years.

“I wish the players, all the best this summer.”

In the comments, former United goalkeeper David de Gea reacted in a similar way to most fans.

“What??????”, the Spanish shot-stopper wrote.

United fans also flooded the comments, labelling the call unfair and saying Maguire was robbed.

Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo gets World Cup call-up

While Maguire’s absence is saddening for United supporters and the defender may end up calling it a day on his international career, Kobbie Mainoo will be celebrating his own inclusion.

Ben Jacobs has claimed that Mainoo is expected to be called up by Tuchel when the squad is officially announced on Friday, ahead of the World Cup in three weeks’ time.

This decision highlights the turnaround Mainoo has undergone this season, with his quality undeniable as he heads for a second straight international tournament with England.

It has also been claimed that the other United hopeful, Luke Shaw, has also missed out on the squad; however, this comes as no shock considering he hasn’t been in the picture for two years.

The full picture will be clear on Friday, but United’s players know where they stand.
