Gareth Southgate is no longer the manager of England, and as this was announced, Harry Maguire sent a message to the outgoing manager.

After eight years at the helm of England, Gareth Southgate has departed his position, following the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

This always felt like the final chance for Southgate to win something, and he came so close once again. But he now looks for a new challenge in football.

Southgate revolutionized football in the country and deserves a lot of respect and praise for doing so. As his exit was announced, Harry Maguire was among those to react and posted on his Instagram with a message to Southgate.

What Harry Maguire wrote to Gareth Southgate

Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has made 63 England appearances, all coming under Southgate and will feel a tonne of gratitude for this.

This explains why he took to Instagram after the announcement, to send a classy message to his now former national team boss.

“You made us all believe again – memories that will last forever. Thankyou boss”, followed by an England flag and a lion emoji.

This message from Maguire is spot on, and for all the stick Southgate has gotten in his time as England manager, from where the nation’s football was when he took over to now is worlds apart.

He will always be an English footballing legend for this, and for reaching two finals, a semi-final and a quarter-final. These results were unheard of for England in many fan’s lifetimes.

What next for Gareth Southgate

Now Southgate is out of a job, chances are he’ll take a step into club management. This is a move long expected and Ineos are said to hold him in high regard.

Southgate may have done an excellent job with England. But no matter what, he cannot be an option for Ineos in the event Erik ten Hag ends up needing replacing.

The fanbase has made their feelings clear around this and if Ineos were to even consider it, it’d be a huge own goal.

It’s more likely we see Southgate at a midtable side, considering he has practically no club management pedigree and United would almost certainly be a failed project for him.
