Manchester United have had many false dawns since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, but Harry Maguire is convinced it’s the real deal now.
The mood has taken a 180-degree turn at Man Utd ever since Michael Carrick became the interim manager, taking over from Ruben Amorim.
All the talk of suffering and system has been replaced by success, and Harry Maguire has played a key role in that change.
It has led to renewed calls about the dreaded “Man Utd are back” narrative, but Maguire is embracing it this time due to one key factor.

Carrick says Top 5 isn’t enough. Honestly, based on his run, do you think we are a genuine Title Contender for next season?
Harry Maguire’s hopes for Man Utd
Maguire has always been the consummate professional, wishing to leave the club in a better place even when he signed a contract extension.
From being the toast of United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to having his name unceremoniously booed once, he has seen it all.
Therefore, he is better placed than anybody else to give a measure of how things are behind the scenes at Carrington right now.
Maguire is convinced that this run of form to rocket United up to third in the table is not a coincidence, and neither is it a false dawn, because the structure above the manager is finally settled.
He said [via The Overlap]: “I think now they’ve got a good structure behind him [Carrick]. I think they’ve got the hierarchy down. They’ve started to get the CEO Omar and Jason, and they’ve got a big decision to make on the manager.
“Obviously, they need to get that right, and they need to bring in a few players, but definitely we’re getting a squad that I feel like can start to compete again in the Premier League.”
Summer window will decide everything for Man Utd
As Maguire says, the manager decision is probably already made behind the scenes, with Carrick the favourite to take on the reins.
HOW will Harry Maguire be remembered at Manchester United?💥
Thereafter comes the recruitment part, which will make or break United’s aspirations for a title push leading in the season after the next.
Ineos have largely got the recruitment right, which explains why Maguire is confident that this is not a false dawn.
They face another summer window full of decisions, arguably the most important one yet, because the midfield has a gaping hole, and four competitions stare United in the face next season.
If they get it right, even a title charge next season won’t be beyond thought. If they don’t, then Maguire’s comments will age like milk, again.
