Manchester United youngster Harry Amass is celebrating making his first ever start for the club.

All the hard work Harry Amass has put in over the past few months paid off when he was selected to make his first start for the club on April 13.

Harry Amass shone in pre-season for Manchester United, but he was deemed not yet ready for the physicality of Premier League football.

Ruben Amorim handed Amass his long-awaited debut in the win over Leicester City in March, before selecting him as a starter away at Newcastle this past weekend.

It was a major show of confidence, with Patrick Dorgu rested and Luke Shaw deemed still not ready to start games, eventually replacing Amass in the second half.

Amass message after first start

Harry Amass, 18, was thrilled to make the next step in his Manchester United career, playing 55 minutes at St James’ Park.

Amass sent a message following Manchester United’s loss, reflecting on the mixed experience of a memorable personal milestone, and a very disappointing result for the team, losing 4-1.

The teenager wrote on Instagram: “Disappointing result but happy to get my first start,” along with a heart emoji.

Harry Amass received numerous supportive messages from Manchester United youth academy teammates who hope to follow in his footsteps.

These include exciting striker Gabriele Biancheri and promising midfielder Jack Moorhouse, who was in first team training, who was in first team training last week.

There was also a message from Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg, viewed as a key target for United this summer and valued at £25 million by the Black Cats.

Rigg, an England youth international teammate of Amass, responded with an applause emoji and a fire emoji, to the Manchester United prospect’s message.

Amass targeted by Newcastle

Harry Amass performed well, although might reflect that he could have handled Newcastle’s second goal a little better. He slid in to try and cut out a cross, but would have been better off staying on his feet and standing his ground.

Nonetheless the game was valuable experience against a physical side who attempted to exploit his youthfulness, with Leny Yoro booked for pushing Fabian Schar off him at a corner.

Amass will likely be back on the bench against Lyon, with Dorgu rested and Shaw back in the mix.

But with the Premier League looking increasingly meaningless for the rest of the season, there is plenty of opportunity for Amass to rack up more minutes.
