Manchester United began his Manchester United managerial career with a 1-1 draw away at Ipswich.
No Manchester United boss has ever had a start quite like Ruben Amorim’s, when he was 1-0 up after just two minutes.
United’s away fans were cheering his name soon after, yet the excitement faded as the game went on.
The new coaching team had to settle for a point, which leaves United slumped in 12th position.

Ruben Amorim praises Andre Onana
Manchester United’s draw could quite easily have been a defeat, if not for the excellent goalkeeping display from Andre Onana.
Onana pulled off one unbelievable save from Liam Delap from close range, and made five saves in total to keep Ipswich out.
Their one goal was a curler from the edge of the box that Onana’s dive had covered, only for Noussair Mazraoui to glance the shot slightly out of his path.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, Amorim praised his goalkeeper, commenting: “We could win this game, but also Onana did great saves.”
He added: “A goalkeeper is so important in one team. When we needed, Onana was there.”
Amorim praises Onana’s passing
Ruben Amorim explained that he loved the variety of passing in Andre Onana’s game and his desire to find a teammate all the time.
He said: “With the ball, he was very good. He didn’t use all the time long balls – he tried to connect – so it was a great game for Andre.”
Onana completed 36 of 48 passes, 78 per cent, and was keen to come out of the box and get on the ball when he could.
The more Amorim gets to know him, and instruct him to play as he wants to, the better for the whole team. From first look, he’s clearly happy with what he sees.
