After an impressive loan spell in 2022/23, Manchester United fans hoped Amad would ignite his career at the club last pre-season.

Instead after a couple of low-key displays, Amad then got injured, and missed the first few months of the season.

After scoring a sensational FA Cup winner against Liverpool in March, Amad still had to wait until May for his first start.

When he did start, he looked electric. The season ended at just the wrong time for him.

Amad stars v Rangers

Fortunately Amad has picked up exactly where he left off. After missing the Manchester United game against Rosenborg, he was back in the starting line-up against Rangers.

Rangers are one of Amad’s former loan clubs, and it looked like he had a point to prove.

The Ivorian scored Manchester United’s opening goal in the 2-0 win, a rasping shot from the edge of the area.

He was praised on MUTV by former Red Devils prospect Danny Simpson, who said he thought Amad showed energy straight from the opening kick-off.

Simpson said: “You can see from the get go in the first minute, that you can see him wanting to score a goal.

“Seeing his body language ‘today is going to be my day’, and obviously he did that.

“His first touch, we see a few times it coming over the back post and he takes it on his chest.

“He turns, he plays passes forward, and he looks very sharp, and we could have a player on our hands.”

Amad was United’s best player

Amad was Manchester United’s best player against Rangers and this bodes well for next season.

He is still a player with untapped potential, who needs a run in the first team. The wide positions have got a little competitive now with Jadon Sancho back.

Antony was not part of the squad against Rangers due to injury, and when he does return, he faces a real uphill battle for his spot. Amad deserves to keep his place.
