Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has questioned Casemiro’s fitness after watching the first two Manchester United games of the season.

Casemiro has been overworked for Manchester United so far, with the team’s wide open midfield leaving him with lots of ground to cover.

The introduction of Mason Mount has appeared to unbalance United’s midfield, with Casemiro left to anchor behind the England international and Bruno Fernandes.

Yet there is a little finger pointing at Casemiro too, with Glenn Hoddle following Jamie Carragher by criticising the former Real Madrid midfielder.

Glenn Hoddle questions Casemiro

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Glenn Hoddle says Casemiro did not look fully fit.

He explained: “I’d be saying is Casemiro fit enough? He’s come back not looking anywhere near the player he was at the end fo the season. He was different class.

“They tried to protect the back four more against Spurs because they were so open against Wolves, but he didn’t have the legs to get into those positions, to do his midfield part and then drop in when needed to between the two centre-backs.

“He [Ten Hag] has got a problem. Put another body in there, Eriksen, he can play in a deeper role.”

Manchester United change expected

Erik ten Hag will have access to all the data behind the scenes and if there was a problem with Casemiro’s fitness, he would not be picking him, or if he was, not in such a high-risk system.

It appears to us like it is Ten Hag’s system which is making Casemiro look bad, along with a little rustiness.

A change is expected in the next game at home to Nottingham Forest, potentially quite a few changes, with Eriksen or Scott McTominay coming into the midfield, and further switches up front.

United have scored only one goal in the opening two games, and this weekend’s match against Forest is likely going to be a nervous affair, despite four victories over them last season in league and cup.
