Gary Neville shares why Roy Keane is the most influential player he’s ever seen at Man Utd

Gary Neville and Roy Keane are both firmly etched into the history of Manchester United as legends.

Two former Manchester United captains, both played massive roles in the glory years under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Both are royalty at Old Trafford, but it is Roy Keane who United fans revere among the best to ever play for the football club.

Keane is one of the best leaders United have had, with the Irishman leading both on and off the pitch through excellent example.

Now, Neville has explained just why Keane was so impactful at United.

Gary Neville picks Roy Keane as Manchester United’s most influential player ever

It will come as no shock that Neville picked Keane as the most influential player he’s seen at United.

Speaking on the Stick to Cricket podcast, Neville answered the question with Keane, before explaining exactly why.

“I think about how important you were as a captain on the pitch, and you know, you’re massively influential, and he was massively influential to us. Yeah. I mean, without him, I always used to think without him, we were half the team.

“He was that important that in the most influential football player I’ve ever seen, right? Ever seen in terms of in my career at United.

“He was the most influential football player that I’ve ever seen in terms of the impact he had on everybody in that dressing room. Bryan Robson before that. I was with Bryan for the last couple of years at the end of his career. So my debut for United was Bryan’s last game.

“So I witnessed Bryan for a couple years in the youth team and he was he was a huge influence, but I didn’t get Bryan at his absolute peak. But Roy is the biggest influence I’ve ever seen on the football team.”

Both Keane and Neville are tier one in terms of United legends, with the pair playing together 322 times. Due to this, Neville is absolutely well placed to be commenting on his former teammate.

In these 322 games, United won 189, drew 77 and lost 56 and there was plenty of silverware won in this time.

Keane and Neville won seven Premier League titles, one Champions League, four FA Cups and four community shields in their time together at the club.

While no one player can have all of this attributed to him, Keane makes an excellent case that he was among the most vital cogs in Sir Alex’s machine and Neville has confirmed that.
