Gary Neville reacts to Ruben Amorim’s sacking by naming three renowned head coaches he admires as potential candidates for the Manchester United job.

Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim on Monday morning, with the team sitting 6th in the Premier League.

It is understood that relations between the board and head coach hit rock bottom after Amorim challenged Ineos following United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds on Sunday.

United wasted no time getting rid of Amorim. Now, former United midfielder Darren Fletcher is tasked with taking charge of the first team for at least one or two matches.

There will inevitably be plenty of speculation over who will get the job next. Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner is a top candidate for the permanent role, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick have been tipped as potential options to manage the team on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

United fans will be weighing up the options for the next permanent head coach between now and the summer.

Gary Neville tips Thomas Tuchel, Diego Simeone and Ernesto Valverde for Man Utd job

It was only a matter of time before former United captain turned pundit Gary Neville shared his thoughts on the next United head coach.

Neville has opinions on everything, especially United, and that didn’t sit well with Amorim during his time at Old Trafford.

Amorim referenced Neville in his Ineos-inspired rant because he felt club chiefs were listening to the former right-back too much.

Rather than name the head coach he wants at United next, Neville named three coaches he admires, including England manager Thomas Tuchel.

Neville added Diego Simeone and Ernesto Valverde to his three-man list of potential candidates.

“I think it would be wrong of me to name it (who should be next manager),” he said on The Gary Neville Podcast.

“There are coaches that I like. I like Tuchel.

“I like Simeone, Atletico Madrid. I like Valverde. I think Valverde is a fantastic coach.

“But are there really opportunities for Manchester United to go and get these coaches? I don’t know. I have no idea.

“But the most important thing is that Manchester United Scouting Department, Recruitment Department, Sporting Director, have got their eyes open and basically have been seeing this coming over the last few months and have basically got an idea of what they need to do next and that they’re going to come up with that quite quickly.”

How are Diego Simeone and Ernesto Valverde performing this season?

Simeone is part of the furniture at Atletico Madrid, which might make it a struggle to reach an agreement.

Atletico Madrid have 38 points from 19 matches, but need to start winning matches more consistently if they are to clinch Champions League qualification.

Meanwhile, Valverde’s Athletic Club are positioned 8th in La Liga. They also take on Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final on Thursday night.
