Gary Neville told Sky Sports he was ‘absolutely stunned’ by Manchester United’s turnaround.

After a 4-0 defeat to Brentford, Manchester United responded with a 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Neville said he felt Bruno Fernandes in particular ‘responded’ to Erik ten Hag’s call for the players to show an improved attitude.

The pundit said he was particularly impressed with the number 8’s work rate to inspire United’s victory.

Gary Neville hails ‘sensational’ Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes was Manchester United captain on the night and Neville felt he set the standard in the right way.

Neville told Sky Sports’ post-game coverage: “He was sensational from minute 1 to 90. He never stopped working.”

Fernandes was able to wind Liverpool’s players up too, throwing them off their game.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford scored the goals before Mohamed Salah pulled one back to set up a tense last few minutes.

Fernandes was particularly good during this stretch, tracking back to cut out Liverpool’s attacks.

He showed the leadership Erik ten Hag called for before the game, and set a standard the team must aspire to regularly repeat.

Fernandes got a little lucky in the first half when he nearly scored an own goal, with Lisandro Martinez bailing him out.

While still looking for his first goal or assist of the season, Fernandes will be proud of his contribution to the victory, and the praise from Neville is justified.
