Gary Neville delivers verdict on Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd future, he will be concerned

Manchester United suffered their 10th league loss of the season on Saturday, now Gary Neville has admitted his thoughts on Erik ten Hag.

The performance that Manchester United put in on Saturday was very concerning and showed to the worst degree just how unorganised the side are currently, out of possession in particular.

Erik ten Hag just can’t seem to get performances right and with multiple views of his team being that he’s failing to set them up right defensively, his future could be in doubt.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the new footballing structure unlikely to want to waste time, the Dutchman could be on the chopping block – with replacements now being touted.

This is something Gary Neville has now shed light on ahead of a crucial week for the manager.

Gary Neville drops stark verdict for Erik ten Hag

Speaking for Sky Sports on Monday Night Football, Neville gave his thoughts on what could be a grim warning of what’s to come for Ten Hag.

“I think, look, if you look at the guy who has come in from City as CEO, and then obviously they’re looking to get Dan Ashworth in from Newcastle.

“They’re [the footballing structure] going to make a decision I think quite quickly if they’ve not already. I suspect that Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford already know if they’re going to keep Erik ten Hag as manager next season, I can’t believe they’re going to wait until May to make that decision and leave themselves short.

“Where Manchester United have been found out in the last 10 years is making poor decisions, not being ahead of the game, I don’t think they’re going to do that so for me I suspect they’ll have come to a conclusion already. It may even be if it’s Champions League or not whether they stick to that decision.”

This verdict is made even more concerning for Ten Hag due to the fact Neville has such close ties with the club and is even being consulted by Ineos on certain matters.

What should Sir Jim Ratcliffe do with Erik ten Hag?

As much as the hope is Ten Hag turns this side around and begins to see an improvement in performances, it’s tough to see Ineos allowing him to remain if things don’t improve.

While we may not have a squad at the same level as Manchester City for example, Ten Hag definitely has the players to set up and dominate Luton and Fulham, two things he failed to do despite winning the former.

Much of this probably depends on the next few weeks and months, with an FA Cup triumph and top four likely enough to earn himself at least the summer and start of next season.

This makes Tuesday’s game against Nottingham Forest vital as a loss will mean we’re set to end the season trophyless with the top four likely to take another blow upon likely defeat to City this Sunday.
