Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has admitted that there is one former Manchester United player who reminds him of what Sir Alex Ferguson “instilled in people.”

Neville recently made an appearance on The Daily Ketchup Podcast, even opening up about who he would choose out of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola at United.

The 48-year-old United legend also shared his experience from his club playing career and even revealed three locker room leaders under Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Neville has enjoyed a successful period post-United, with the ex-Red Devils captain working as a pundit for Sky and pursuing other business ventures in his life.

The ex-United defender admitted that a former member of the club’s ‘Class of ‘92’ summed up what Ferguson was about with his life on the pitch and off it.

Neville speaks on ‘very basic’ Robbie Savage

Neville played down his own ability on the pitch and insisted that he “wasn’t a remarkable” player, despite his success during his entire career at United.

The former England international then spotlighted Robbie Savage, who was part of United’s Class of ’92 alongside the likes of Neville, David Beckham and Paul Scholes.

Neville admitted that Savage was a “very basic football player,” but the former United player had to ‘work hard’ and “fight” for his career in the Premier League.

The ex-United right-back also pointed to Savage’s success off the pitch and how the former Class of ’92 member was a reminder of what Ferguson instilled in people.

Speaking to The Daily Ketchup Podcast, Neville said: “I wasn’t a remarkable football player. I wasn’t.

“The only thing you can do is basically in life is do the very best you can and extract every last little bit of talent and energy out of your body that you can. I always think of Robbie Savage.

“So, Robbie Savage, very basic football player. So, Robbie Savage was in the ‘Class of ‘92,’ not a lot of people know this. He was in my year.

“And Robbie Savage has had a career in football in the Premier League until he was 35 just through hard work and fight and determination.

“And then he’s gone on since then to be a pundit, to go on to television, to be a presenter.

“And Robbie Savage probably annoys a lot of people, but I always look at Robbie Savage and think he’s a great example of what Sir Alex Ferguson instilled in people.

“That you just don’t give in, you fight for every little bit of thing that you can get and he’s made the most of his career.

“And I think that’s really the most you can, make the most of your life, make the most of the talent you got and the days you got in front of you.”

Savage should not be scoffed at

As Neville pointed out, Savage is seen as a polarising figure in the world of football and the ex-United player probably does ‘annoy’ a lot of people with his thoughts.

But Savage did well to continue his playing career after his time at United and even positioned himself as a figure in the world of sports media for football.

The 49-year-old Welshman has done punditry for BBC and even applied himself to commentary for live Champions League matches for TNT Sports.

Savage, who played for the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Leicester City and Birmingham City after United, even has his own column for The Daily Mirror.

The former Wales international was ruthlessly torn apart by Chelsea legend John Terry in the past for the criticism that he aimed at him.

Despite being famously ridiculed by Terry, it hasn’t deterred Savage from his work off the pitch and his determination to succeed does have to be admired.
