The transfer window might be closed but the movements in and around Manchester United keep coming and the latest one concerns a career move.

Teams might not be able to buy players anymore but they can still sign players on a free transfer or release them from contract.

Manchester United were themselves linked to Adrien Rabiot, a free agent after leaving Juventus, while they let many contracts expire before the start of the window.

A surprise contract termination recently happened for an ex-Manchester United man and he is now on the cusp of moving again, with Fred hyping up the credentials of his former teammate.

Alex Telles announces Al Nassr departure

It came completely out of nowhere when former Manchester United player Alex Telles had his contract terminated with immediate effect by Al Nassr.

The Brazilian was sold to the Saudi Pro League side by Manchester United in 2023 where he joined Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, they ended his contract recently and Telles went on Instagram to thank the Al Nassr fans, expressing that he is now more motivated than ever for the next challenge.

He said: “Thank you Al Nassr fans for all your support while I represented this club. Much affection and respect for the love you have always shown for me and my family. In life there are more important things than football, [such] as loyalty, empathy, respect.

“I finish this cycle with the certainty that I always left everything on the field. I am even more motivated for the next challenge in my career.”

Former club and country teammate Fred reacted to the message with a six-word response, calling Telles a “phenomenon”.

He said: “Up my brother, you’re a phenomenon”, with a fist emoji followed by a heart emoji.

There have been reports indicating that Telles has already found a new club, with Fabrizio Romano giving his famed “Here we go” for a move to Brazilian side Botafogo.

Telles’ time at Old Trafford

When Alex Telles joined Manchester United as one of FC Porto’s most important players, the expectations were sky-high.

Luke Shaw finally had some competition, with Telles’ attacking profile making him ideally suited to the Premier League on paper.

Unfortunately, he added his name to the increasingly long list of players whose careers cratered after joining the club.

A stop-start two years at United had glimpses of the player who excelled in Portugal but just couldn’t do it in England.

A loan to Sevilla followed, after which the cord was finally cut and he moved to Al Nassr. At least, unlike many other signings, he didn’t come for big money so the financial hit on him was palatable.

Fred has rediscovered himself in Fenerbahce, scoring a hattrick recently, and is set to face United again in the Europa League this season.

For Telles, though, his European adventure looks set to end but he’ll undoubtedly be happy with a return to his home country.
