Four words from Ruben Amorim brings back one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most iconic quotes

Ruben Amorim has only been at Manchester United for a month, but he’s already starting to sound like Sir Alex Ferguson.

A pre-match press conference took place at Carrington this morning and Marcus Rashford dominated the headlines as expected.

On Tuesday, Rashford announced he is ready for a new challenge amid reports suggesting he will be put up for sale by Manchester United. The reporters in attendance at this morning’s press conference spent most of the time asking questions about the 27-year-old forward.

However, the focus should be on United’s next game against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night. It’s a chance to secure a place in the Carabao Cup semi-final after the Reds beat Leicester City in the previous round.

Ruben Amorim takes a page from Sir Alex Ferguson’s book

Amorim may be new to the Premier League, but he already knows not to consider Tottenham a top club.

We can be forgiven for thinking that Ruben Amorim has been researching Sir Alex Ferguson’s most iconic quotes, or perhaps it’s a case of great minds thinking alike.

Ferguson gave an infamous team talk to his Manchester United first-team in 2001.

Few words were needed at half-time of a 5-3 win at White Hart Lane, when United bounced back from a three-goal deficit at the break to stun their hosts.

“Lads, it’s Tottenham,” Ferguson told his players before a memorable comeback.

Speaking to reporters ahead of United’s trip to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, Amorim echoed Ferguson’s sentiments by saying ‘it is just Tottenham’ and it felt like a glorious throwback moment.

“This is in the future, my focus is to have all the players in the best that they can be to prepare for each game.

“There is no if at this kind of club, it is just Tottenham and let’s focus on this game.”

Ruben Amorim replicates Sir Alex Ferguson’s derby feat

Following United’s 2-1 win against Manchester City, Amorim became the first manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to win a debut derby.

It has been a relief to see Amorim come in and take control of the media as well as the team.

It was a fantastic result in the derby that should boost momentum ahead of United’s trip to Tottenham. Now Amorim has done something others couldn’t do – such as David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag.

Confidence will only grow in the team if we can get over the Carabao Cup hurdle on Thursday night, but it’s always a good sign to see Ferguson’s feats being achieved again. Long may that continue.
