Forward Manchester United sold in ‘incredible form’ with career-best goals tally

Former Manchester United forward Daniel James is in ‘incredible’ form at Leeds with the jet-heeled winger transforming into a very different sort of player since leaving the Premier League giants.

Considering that the big criticism following Dan James like a bad smell used to focus on his end product – or a lack thereof – there is much to be said of the Welshman’s sudden emergence as a prolific goalscorer at Elland Road.

With seven, 2023/24 is already the most potent season of James’ entire career. The former Manchester United whizkid scored in three successive Championship games recently too, and the misfiring forwards at Erik ten Hag’s disposal could certainly learn a thing or two from James’ new-found penchant for making a yard of space and fizzing laser-guided shots into the corners.

“In terms of the output from James, (Crysencio) Summerville and (Georginio) Rutter, (Daniel) Farke has found a way to make this Leeds side irresistible going forward,” Not The Top 20 podcast host and EFL expert George Elek explains.

“Dan James, continuing his incredible form. A player who, in my mind not that long ago, was so reliant on his pace, it is incredible seeing him basically never using his pace anymore. Is he still quick? I don’t really even know.

“Because everything he does seems to be technically good rather that just him scampering in behind and doing what he used to do.

“I am so impressed by him. And this is from someone who used to really, really doubt him as a player.”

James’ latest goal – coming in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Blackburn Rovers – was typical of the one-time Swansea City ace under Farke. Decisive and deadly, James shifted the ball onto his right foot and wasted little time in firing it across the goal and into the far post.

Sold by Man United in a £25 million deal after Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock return back in 2021, bitter rivals Leeds are starting to look like the team who got the better of that late-summer exchange. And who would have imagined that at the time?
